Sport Opportunity Advisors x 2

Community and School advisors required to provide strategic input into clubs, recreation facilities and schools for the inclusion of disabled people in sporting events and activity programmes.
Located at Sport Auckland, Greenlane

Founded by Sir Murray Halberg over 40 years ago, the Halberg Trust has twin aims:

Honouring sporting excellence
Providing opportunities for people with a disability to participate in sport and recreation

Halberg Trust's office is at Ellerslie Racecourse in Auckland, where there are five staff. The three Regional Managers are spread down the country.

The sporting excellence aim is achieved via the annual Westpac Halberg Awards, New Zealand's pre-eminent sporting awards.

The disability and sport aim is primarily achieved through The Sport Opportunity programme. The work of this programme, supported by Sparc, is mainly carried out by Sport Opportunity Advisors (SOAs) who are funded by Halberg Trust and employees of Regional Sports Trusts (RSTs). From 2010 a new 'Auckland project' is being implemented, in which the Trust will directly employ SOAs to serve the Auckland area.

In addition, Halberg Trust has recently become a Sparc 'Lead Agency', meaning that the Trust receives additional funding to invest in National Sports Organisations and Parafeds to achieve Sparc's disability aims. This represents an exciting opportunity for the Trust.

Halberg Trust also has an Activity Fund which supports young people with a disability to participate in sport and recreation, e.g. lessons and camps, or purchase equipment that removes barriers to participation.

The SOAs will be based at Sport Auckland, Alexandra Park Function Centre, Greenlane Auckland.
