Lead - Older Adult (Healthy Lifestyles)

Sport Wellington is seeking a team leader to form part of our existing Healthy Lifestyles Team. The Lead-Older Adult will be responsible for programmes and initiatives relating to older adults, and will provide valuable insights into this demographic to share with the Sport Wellington team.

Sport Wellington has recently been appointed as Lead Agency for the ACC Community Group Strength and Balance Project, for Wellington. Sport Wellington will oversee the development of existing and, the establishment of new Community Group Strength and Balance classes across the region. A major part of the role will be to manage this project, as well as provide Sport Wellington with ongoing insights and experience of older adults in the region.

Sport Wellington requires a Lead-Older Adult (within our Healthy Lifestyles team) based out of our Wellington office in Thorndon. The role is mostly a lead role, with some delivery, but that will be expected to be working with the community outside of normal working hours.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

To contribute to the Sport Wellington team with expertise and understanding of the needs of older adults in sport and active recreation.
To develop and deliver quality service and support systems for the ACC Community Group Strength and Balance contract.
To assist leading and developing the overall Community Group Strength and Balance programme regionally, and support local providers to deliver quality fall prevention programmes for older adults, in consultation with the Healthy Lifestyles Manager and ACC.
To achieve key performance indicators in line with Sport Wellington and ACC CGSB targets.


Essential experience is:

A qualification and /or experience in the provision of older adult services or community development or physiotherapy/occupational therapy.
An understanding of health promotion principles and practices.
A high level of knowledge of exercise principles and delivery especially in regards to older adults.
Full Drivers Licence
Flexibility in work hours (connection with the community can be outside of ‘normal’ working hours)
Ability to build rapport and maintain relationships
Adaptability/Flexibility
